Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there anyone out there without a problem with the Lexus Rx300? I bought mine from an Independent. I'm a Disabled Veteran and had a doctor appointment the very next day in Lexington, KY which is about a 45 minute drive from where I live. Before I could get there, the car was putting out some heat - badly, the VSC light came on and the check engine light came on. Had a person drive it home from Lexington the day I bought it from OMID OMIDI in Lexington, KY. BEWARE OF THIS GUY!!! Paid what the car booked for, never had a Lexus but ALWAYS owned Toyotas which I LOVE and thought it was the same and comparable car. Before friend could get it home from Lexington, the car was at 4,000 rpms while driving about 50 mph. Replaced back brakes & rotors, need to constantly put air in tires and the transmission fluid was brown and almost completely empty. Replaced the Transmission filter and all fluids. Also cleaned it and it only got the top layer of dirt off. Also replaced fluids. Had to cancel my doctor appointment and take it to Advance Auto where they told me I needed to replace the Knock Sensor, Master Cylinder for brakes, bulbs, fuses, etc. Haven't had the car for even two weeks and want rid of it. I am broke. Thanks Omid Omidi if that's you're real name!

I bought my 1999 RX 300 with 78000 miles. Right off the bat I had a few items to repair, timing belt, plugs and wires. I now have 179000. I always change the transmission fluid regularly and do the usual standard maintenance. I had to repair the cruise control at 150000, but other than that, its been a very solid SUV. I drive an hour to work one way everyday so put on a fair amount of highway miles. I just put on a brand new set of tires and brakes so I expect to get many more miles out of my Lexus. Sorry you're having the problems you're having.

Your overdrive will disable if you have a knock sensor engine code. I have fixed many this way. Replace knock sensor . Under the manifold. It will come back. Go get your codes scanned at autozone for free. See what they say

GuruTW85F try disconnecting your battery remove the positive(+) terminal first then negative(-) after. Once you do this, you can eliminate residual current in your vehicle's wiring by making both disconnected terminals contact one another and tape them temporarily so you can take your key and turn the ignition switch a few times as if you were turning your vehicle ON but since it's disconnected it will only disperse residual current including memory banks where vehicle error codes are stored and this will reset "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" temporarily. Then remove the tape from both battery terminals and reconnect the ground(-) terminal first then the positive(+) terminal after. This might help your overdrive gear start working again I do this on my '00 RX300 every once in a while when it won't shift into overdrive and it starts to work again usually this will last anywhere from 2-10 weeks even longer and doesn't take long to disconnect and reconnect the battery but this is a temporary fix.
