All new brakes, but there is a grinding metal on metal sound

Asked by CJVALEK May 03, 2013 at 02:50 PM about the 2006 Lexus GX 470 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 4 new brake pads and 4 new rotors on my Lexus.  Yesterday I was coming to a
stop and it felt like my brakes let go and then caught, almost like there was an air bubble
in the brake line.  Today my brakes are working but sounds like they are grinding while I
am driving and when I apply the brakes.

the new rotors may have been packed in "cosmolene" that should be removed with an appropriate solvent...if they didn't do that, the brakes would not be correct~

That is just typical on new brake pads. That happened to me for few hundred miles. That is if the pads are installed correctly, bleed corretly and the brake bolt are tightened and put back correctly. TO lessen the grinding you can use a Sand paper and sand in circles the rotors and you can also use a brake cleaner for it. I hope this can help you.

If there was a air bubble, the pedal would be soft. Nothing should feel like it "let go" and then hear a grinding sound. -- If it was my car, I would have the wheel(s) off and checking on the condition of the pads. I wouldn't want to drive it if there was a possibility that it would let go again and not have any brakes.
