Serpentine belt snapped

Asked by Jason Jul 21, 2016 at 09:39 AM about the 2002 Honda CR-V EX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving at 60mph, my serpentine belt suddenly snapped.  I pulled over immediately and shut off the engine.  Looked under the hood, saw a bit of steam, and it smelled of burning...probably the belt.  Obviously I need a new belt, but what other issues might I expect after the mechanic looks at the car?  By the way, I also recently (in the last week) had my A/C compressor replaced, so I wonder if the belt not properly adjusted afterward could cause this.

In addition to the above make sure that the A/C compressor is not locked up. Serpentine belts usually don't just break.

Do what Bob suggested but also spin each accessory the belt goes around making sure everything spins freely listen for bad bearings and as Bob said anything seized up.
