Belt issue

I was currently driving home from work last night,
and tens minutes within driving on the highway my
chargering system failure light came on, and all
sudden I was loosing power, and I noticed once I
pull over i notices my car was trying to overheat I
have a 2004 grand Prix . Once the tow truck driver
finally made it he noticed my belt was hanging
from my car. my question is can a broken belt
cause a car to over heat?

one of the pulleys probably seized up , the belt broke and the alt. and water pump stopped working causing the problems

    seat belt will seem to operate fine until it is locked into the receiver... then the issue is it will not move thus pinning you to the seat... trust me it gets the 3 count every time...
