How to replace BACK GLASS - 1999 Dodge Neon

Can not express this enough ! It is a lot of time consuming work so look on your auto insurance policy and see if it isn't covered already and you could have it done for free. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL, I would recommend laying out an old sheet over the back seat and window shelf area to protect from glass slivers. Remove interior trim, remove wire for heated glass if you have that connection, then take hair dryer and "warm" on area along one vertical side in order to get a small punch thru the "butyl" tape which holds the glass in the body. Once the punch has made an opening which you could pass a thin piece of wire thru (you need a helper and a 2 foot piece of THIN wire), roll the wire ends over anything that is easy to hold on to. Slowly work the wire "in and out" while following along the end of the glass till you have gone all the way around the window. Then slowly lift the glass out, recycle as required, clean the old butyl tape off completely and then install new butyl tape where the old was and "warm up" with a hair dryer. Carefully set new glass in place and evenly/carefully install new glass while providing a slow even pressure to the glass working from the middle top and bottom to the outside "vertical" ends. Even after it is done, vacuum everywhere twice - (once up/down and then left to right is what I do) to make sure all the slivers are picked up.

1.Place a tarp or old bed sheet underneath the door that has the broken window to collect pieces of glass that may fall. 2.If the window is heavily damaged, use a hammer to gently tap loose sections of glass from the door, while wearing thick work gloves and safety glasses. 3.Open up the door fully and use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws which hold the interior door panel in place. Lift the door panel away from the door and move it to one side. 4.Use a hex wrench to remove the hex bolts which attach the broken window to the window regulator. Put on a pair of protective gloves and carefully lift the window out of the window frame. 5.Place a new window in to the door frame. Align the bottom edge of the window with the top bracket of the window regulator. Install the hex bolts to secure both together.
