99 subaru legacy limited gt 30th edition

i  have been havin a problem with the   it over heating and
havent had the money tobget her fixed now  thatbi got the
money i want to fix it i  cant figure out it says its a h4   does
that also mean its  a  ej25d   it was running fine  just would
get hot so id stop running it now it stalled out and cant get
it to run so i need to kno what engine i can put in   it plug
and play or what engines in there so i can rebuild

The d in Ej25d would indicate a DOHC engine. The typical problem with the older Subaru engines is leaking head gaskets which can cause overheating. H4 is the engine design. Subaru engines are an opposed 4 cylinder like old VW's but are water cooled.
