Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Ford F-150 with a 4.2
automatic transmission. Transmission is
bad. I've been told that a replacement has
to come from a 2006?  Is this correct?  I've
also been told as long as it is from 04-08.

Best to stick with the same year, the problem is that they change wiring plugs even though the trans number is the same the electronics are not. Why don't you overhaul the one you have? Unless the case is busted you could have the rebuilder beef it up some and take care of some of the known internal failures. Used automatic trannies are iffy at best, you never know if they will even work after you go through the effort installing it. And if it does work just how long will it work.

Yeah you are right. I've got a rebuilder that gave me a decent price and he should know the things to change that usually give the most problems. I appreciate you replying to my question.
