I was told to replace my serpentine belt at 31k miles of 6

Is it 6 years old with 31k miles? Inspect it for wear, cracking, dryrot, damage ect. Replacing it is cheap insurance. Just do not use the cheapest belt out there as this could be worse than replacing it if its still good at 6 years old.

Our 2014 Lincoln MKZ recommends serpentine belt replacement at 150,000 miles. 31K sounds kind of soon, but it wouldn't hurt anything to replace it. Check all the pulleys and tensioner for rough bearings while you are at it.

from my experience a pulley or component will go bad and ruin the belt before it wears out , so like bob said check the idler , tensioner , alt. pulleys for noise , wobble ,
