There are many things that may cause the issue. It can be the Transmission Shift Cable Broke, Stretched Transmission Cable, Faulty Shifter Mechanism, Blocked Shifter Mechanism, Worn Ignition Key Tumbler, Failing Transmission Solenoids, Failing Transmission. What you can do is to turn off your car and make sure your emergency brake is engaged while you troubleshoot to see what is causing the issue. If your emergency break is not working then you may need to find wheel wedges for all four tires to make sure your vehicle does not roll away on you.
@MDClancy...Ignition key tumbler on a C6 Corvette? That's a good one.
