Which car is the best option for an ecological car

Any economy or small sedan/coupe/hatchback with four cylinder engine and a manual transmission with overdrive. Even though automatic has gotten better, manuals are still efficient. Although I do not mention specific year, make and model, I would say go as small as possible depending on your use of a car. you may want to check out the website www.fueleconomy.gov the reason I do not say hybrid is because I am not sure if the battery packs are recycable or not.
