why dont they make a car that runs on water not petrol

They do make hydrogen powered cars but the fuel is generally expensive to make and much more dangerous since it either is at high pressure or low temperature... Unless you get into the hydrogen wafer disks, but there is a massive amount of energy consumed in producing those and the manufacturer of them tends to be worse for the enviroment than gas.... and more expensive. Granted it is possible to create a hydrogen refueling station that uses solar power to power electrolysis of water to seperate the hydrogen and compress it into storage tanks. Which will never be main stream with the astronomical cost the refueling stations. We have one here for two Ford hydrogen powered shuttle, but it can't really fuel much more than that. So long story short expensive and dangerous... Two things that don't mix well with moving objects
