So the best cars is something cheap, underpowered, and has a stellar record for reliability. First look at Toyota Carolas, Honda Civics, and similar cars. And stay away from sporty, like the Miyata. Simple cars that just perform basic transportation won't jeep you up at night.

Yep Ed is right, something cheap, as insurance for a new driver is going to be a killer on anything but worse on a higher performing vehicle. And yes even just the name can raise the rate even if it only has a 6 cylinder engine.

Cheap and disposable! On the domestic side stay away from Chrysler and GM. Stay away from higher end imports like Mercedes, BMW, etc. even if they're older models and cheap to buy. They're not cheap to fix and they will break down often! Hope that helps! Jim
