How do I verify the quality of a car (with a mechanic) before purchase?
Is there an official process for that? If not, how is it practically done? I
understand the idea of going to an independent mechanic, but in this situation,
where (from what I've read online, at least) it seems that CarGuru picks up the
car, I don't understand how this works...when do I have a chance to get it
looked at by a mechanic?

Cargurus is a source of car ads, nothing more. All buyers should have a mechanic inspect a car prior to purchase, and that can be any mechanic you can find and hopefully trust. If this is a distant purchase, and I always recommend you see and drive any car prior to developing interest, you can get nationwide inspection services for this. Most of us here have used Lemon Squad or other reputable companies. They provide detailed inspections with lots of photos. Cost is just a couple hundred bucks.
Lazer inspection, a 26 points of wear check, and a laser alignment may show prior accidents or been welded from several wrecks~
I've used lemonsquad.com a few times and been very satisfied. As far as having the vehicle delivered some Dealers will help you with the arrangements but you pay for the shipping. Try uship.com for a free quote or Google vehicle transport. Hope that helps! Jim
