My idea. Who would change them out? if you are going to change them out your self then you probably have the knowledge to repair yours. There are 2 parts that usually break inside and the updated parts are made stronger. You pull the pan and the valve body, what out for the check balls and note their position if you don't see them you can google it. once you pull the valve body and the filter you can prop it up on end and pull the front pump. once the pump is out of the way then you can bump out the band retainer and remove the band, then grab the input shaft and pull out the front clutch pack and look for the shell to be broken and the mating gear. it sounds hard but if you be careful it will be cheaper and better than putting in another trans that will probably have the same problem. it was a common problem with those transmissions. just my opinion, hope it helps.
