Best mpg truck that will tow 12000 lbs?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I live in a 34 ft 5th wheel RV and want a truck that will haul it (12,500 lbs). BUT,
maybe once/year. The rest of the time, I want the best mpg I can get as a daily
driver, since it'll be my only vehicle. Your suggestions?

The best towing fuel economy would be from a diesel. Diesels cost a lot more so factor that into your choice. I would look at 3/4 ton trucks but fuel economy numbers are not given for 3/4 ton and up trucks. The cheapest choice might be an Eco Boost F150. Keep in mind a 12.5k trailer loaded may weigh another ton or more.

I believe the ecoboost V6 supercab has a towing capacity of 14,000 lbs and has great gas mileage. Above that you're looking at diesels, if you still want good gas mileage. All the big V8's with high towing capacity are not going to deliver high gas mileage.
