My truck went for a swim

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drained all of the transmission fluid out of my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
because of flooding. How many quarts is it going to take to refill it to normal?

Your owner's manual should show fluid capacities, but you should instead go by the dipstick, since you likely didn't get every last bit of fluid out (there's always some left in the torque converter). If you do check fluid levels for the transmission, be sure to warm up tranny first, shift through all gears, then leave engine running while in park when you check, otherwise you can get a false reading.
