This is a frequently asked question. It's best not to buy sight-unseen, but if you must, have an inspection service do an examination of the car; the owner will have to deliver the car to the shop for the test. If it's a Toyota, google Toyota shops that offer this. It'll cost up to $200, but will offer peace-of-mind. As for shipping, that's the buyer's responsibility. Search for ICC certified transport companies and get quotes.

Pay an auto shipper to deliver it to your door, drive out to pick it up and drive back, fly out to drive it back, etc.
