You cannot always assume it's the water pump when the car is running hot. Based on what would you change it? You may have over looked the radiator cap. Sad but true the cap makes a significant difference on the car coolant and motor running properly. Also, make sure you have proper coolant for the car. Water pump is last resort. Do NOT run straight tap water in your coolant. Mix it with your coolant or get pre diluted coolant your choice. Pouring water in it is basically is asking for problems like blown freeze plug and such. A water pump will leak from under side if it's gone bad. Good luck
