2012 ram 1500 stalls with check engine light

Asked by John Aug 24, 2017 at 03:59 PM about the Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ram 5.7 hemi had a bad pop coming from my
cat when I accelerated. While I was driving one day
I hit the gas and it puttered lost power then the
puttering stopped since then my truck stalls when
slowing down.  I checked the codes and it said I
had random misfires.  So I replaced all 16 plugs
gapped them all at .45 and hand snug them all with
your typical ratchet and socket.  But the light was
still on this time it said number 3 misfire and one
random.  So I bought 2 ignition coils and replaced
cylinder 3 and cylinder 5 ignition coil.  The light is
still on I still have a rough shaky idle and it shakes
pretty bad above 45 mph. I'm lost now idk what to
do.  I can't afford a 1,000 dollar dodge dealership
repair.  Any ideas please and thank you.  Truck has
88k miles.

Have you checked the fuel injector and wiring to it. The harness might have an issue. Do you have the right fuel pressure? Test it.

Shroedingers box has a good video on how to test these without blowing your PCM. Watch it...34 minutes. Good video. Type in not to fry computer
