Have you checked to see if there is an oil leak or if you are low on oil? GM engines are pretty well known for developing slow oil leaks over time.

If it is truly the sending unit, then it is behind the intake manifold on the driver's side on the block right where it meets the head. You will need a 27mm thin wall deep socket and a 6" extension and a GM fuel line disconnect tool, because without removing the flex lines it is a bitch and a half, with them off it is only a bitch. Unplug the wiring harness, take out the old sensor, put some silicone on the threads of the new one, put it in and DON'T overtighten it, it is only brass and will twist off. These instructions are for the 5.3, if you have a 5.7, i believe it is in the same place, but may be a different size.
