2002 1500 Express rear brake replacement

Asked by bluegold Jul 17, 2011 at 06:13 PM about the Chevrolet Chevy Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am replacing the rear brake shoes & cannot remove the drums. According to the service manual I must "pin" the parkig brake ato adjust control. I Have never done this in the past. Is it necessary? Or can I just back off the star adjustment wheel to get the drum off??
Thanks for any help, bluegold

slack the adjuster n remove the drum..reinstall the outfit..adjust the brakes..if the parking brake wont hold the truck after this..adjust the cables..not supposed to release them before removing the drums. . . BY THE BOOK: u supposed to adjust the shoes with a COMPLETE RELEASED parking brake cables ;)
