although auto manufacturers have moved to 15" - as with the 2012 Insight, tire manufacturers continue to manufacture 14" tires. You will find however tire dealerships do not stock many 14" but they can usually have them on site within 24-48 hrs.

What's the tire size? And if they're 14"s as mentioned above, yeah they will be harder to find but by no means HARD to find. Now the Insight is one of the early fuel saving vehicles, so what I would be concerned with is an odd tire fitment and a specification for "low friction tires"...

regarding low rolling resistance tires: a tire's rolling resistance affects fuel economy. Most vehicle manufacturers demand their suppliers develop low rolling resistance tires to be used as Original Equipment on their new vehicles to help average out their CAFE-mandated mpg. In order to meet the manufacturer's demands, these tires are often designed with a priority on reducing weight and rolling resistance and are molded with slightly thinner sidewalls, shallower tread depths and use low rolling resistance constructions and tread compounds. Honda OEM is: Bridgestone Potenza-RE92 LRR 165/65R14 retails for $90 @tirerack.com with one major drawback - it has a UTQG of 260 (Uniform Tire Quality Grade by DOT) which indicates the useful life of the tire. The Michelin X-1 P175/65/R14 has a UTQG of 700!! The Potenza RE92 is a 40k tire; Michelin X-One is an 80k tire. Note - the Michelin is NOT an LRR tire. BUT mechanics & tireshops all agree the 175/65R14 will fit just fine on the Insight, with a little wider contact patch. The trade off is improved handling and tire life for MPGs. If you don't want to sacrifice mileage, look for a tire with a UTQG of 400. Check other Insight forums. Lots of owners with a lot of info out there. One final note: Honda choose Bridgestone b/c they mfg'd the size tire they needed, not because it was LRR. Another: Michelin Energy Saver- LRR 165/65/R14 $120 @tirebuyer.com

I hope this helps, 3rd set at 52k miles. Yes I rotate. I have gone from 47 mpg to 35 mpg. 2nd set wore in12k miles. My eco car is costing a bundle between fuel and tires. First set I was getting 50 mpg. It's been a good car but I need my economic expectations from this car even though it stinks inside ßometimes.
