2005 Licoln LS Brake Bleeding
My old-fashioned brake bleeding techniques are
not working on this car. It's electronic parking
brake & the rest of the system are new to me.
I've read something about tricking the calipers into
opening in order to allow the air to pass through
them. Is there a way I can do this at home? I can't
afford anymore specialty tools or a shop right now.
If you have bled the air out at all four wheels, finishing with the R/R last. And you still don't have a good brake pedal, with the car running, then you may not be able to finish this job, because of the modern ABS system. It requires internal solenoids to held open to bleed the brakes. A good scan-tool is needed to perform this task. Make sure the master is kept full. It can never be allowed to run out, not even once or there will be air all over.
What kind of "scan tool"?
Brake shops will have them. They are a computer scan tool and are very expensive. It take a computer program to operate the pistons, solenoids to bleed out the ABS control unit. Air must have gotten into the ABS system. Bleeding out the brakes otherwise is still the same as always. Just can't let the master cylinder go empty when bleeding the brakes. You can bleed the brakes all day long and still not get a brake pedal if there is air in the ABS control module.
