Jeep Cuts & Loses Power
I have a 2003 Jeep Cherokee and it will lose power when giving it gas
sometimes. Especially going up a hill. The RPM needle will go down and
then jump back up real quick. Then it will cut off on me and will not crank
back up for about 10 minutes or so and then finally crank but still gives me
an issue. We have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump and the wiring
harness (computer) that is connected to the pump. Also, it was made sure
there was no air in the gas line and the mechanic said he checked the
sensor as well (whether he did I'm not sure). Please help me with what to do.
You just gave the best description of a crank shaft position sensor failure. They control the spark and the tachometer readings. They cut out when hot and usually come back on when cooled off. But first scan for codes. You can do this by turning the key from OFF to ON three times in five seconds, leaving the key ON. (Don't start the engine.) Your odometer will show code #0320, and maybe others. When done it will show "done". The part is $40 and hard to reach. I just had mine done.
