my sons 2013 Toyota Corolla ran out of gas and now does not accelerate what could be the issue. He let the car idle for hours the night before.

I just recently bought a 2013 Toyota Corolla.  My son had been driving it and let it idle for hours until it ran out of gas in my driveway.  I put gas back in the vehicle however now it does not accellerate.  any idea what this could be??

Probably fuel pump. If the pump is not submerged and car running, the gas is the coolant for the pump and could have gotten hot (they never get hot to the extreme of danger of igniting fuel/fumes in tank) but hot enough to ruin pump. But before you go buy a fuel pump on my say-so test the pressure at fuel rail. Take off engine cover and there is a schrader valve - that looks very much like a tire stem .. and fuel pressure should be 35 +/-5 psi.
