Can anyone tell me if the trans. out of the 2000 models of the Exterra 2wd will work in my 1992 2.4L 240

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I would imagine the bellhousing can and probably will have to be swapped and not sure about the tailshaft. Any thoughts?

Personally, I think this is a no-go. You're talking about taking the trans from a Heavy Duty SUV (Xterra) and putting that into a much older sports coupe (240SX). Plus, the drivetrain and trans from older Xterras aren't the best. My GF had a 2003 Xterra and that Auto Trans was horrible...needed to be rebuilt...She dumped it for a 2009 Nissan Rouge. I'd try to locate a used 240, if you can find one, to swap the trans...might have better luck rebuilding the one you have though. Used 240's AREN'T exactly a dime a dozen, last time I checked....not sure WHY I don't see more on the road though..it was a sharp car.

won't work... you should be able to find KA trans all day for $100. I actually sold my whole KA24e with the trans for a pack of cigarettes. The nissan hardbody pickups use the same trans btw.
