No Im just asking. Everyone is worried about a break but I have driven Honda and Acura for 30ys. Over a million miles. Most cars have been driven 250-300,000 miles and I have never changed a belt or had one break

So I believe around 50,000,60,000 miles they should be replaced. Lucky one you are.

What Happens? The rotation of the lower and upper ends are timed together via the (you guess it) the timing belt. When it breaks you may think just put a new belt on and line up timing marks right, this is not the case you valves at least will be bent, cam lobes pop off or shear and other issues, when we had one come in to shop with broken belt we put in a new or used engine because 99% are a total loss. An interference type engine means that the valve's stroke and piston's stroke take up the same space in the cylinder, so the timing belt essentially keeps them from smashing into each other, since they do it at different times. If the timing belt snaps, they run into each other, causing bent valves (most common), cylinder head or camshaft damage, and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage. It is fairly easy to install new belt on a acura/honda. It can be done at home.

It's the same labor and wise to do the waterpump at the same time. Thats why they are generally sold together. I can't help but wonder if you hadn't replaced the waterpump on those cars and them had put you a timing belt on without your knowing, if not,,, I'm with Bob,,, you will difenately have a expensive surprise one day.
