The main limiting factor on horsepower is money. You could drop in a Mopar 540 hemi supercharged crate engine for about 900+ HP, I think those run just about 38 grand from mopar. With enough fabrication, it could fit. Not exactly a bolt on type thing, though.

You have many options offers to you ; a 1.8T (180Hp and 225Hp but that can be boost whit a biggest turbo), a vr6 (12V = 170hp, 24v=V = 201Hp but that can be boost whit a Turbo or a supercharged on it) or a R32 (a 240Hp 6 cylinders). But the most popular modd is a 1.8T whit a big ball bearing turbo, an FMIC (Front mount intercooler), an exhaust line, etc, that can develop over 400Hp. You can consult this site for more infos on it = www.vwvortex.com
