Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there a special procedure to change oil on 512 tr?  Sump plug, then plug underneath engine?

..ta, yeah. pull out the plugs...the oil drains out, change your filter, select the right cap for "oil" inlet rather than coolant or power steering or brake or clutch or transmission oil, fill till the stick says okay...you did not say the year of the vehicle but if it's from over 2005 would suggest synthetic oil.

It's a 1994 Testarossa. There may not be a engine compartment sticker. It's also a dry sump system so forget about that engine dip stick.

Ferrari has it's own special blend of recommended oil. Check out this thread before trying a DIY oil change. http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t29201_ds121448

put in the special ferrari oil then check the dipstick. could start checkin' with three, and then adjust according to your dipstick.

I'm Pretty sure Agip is the recommended oil, always has been not sure of the viscosity (10w30, 5w30) but I'm sure it is Agip for the Brand. Check with your dealer on ammounts aswell.

Locate your Oil Filter, Warm up your Engine, shut the engine off, pull the drain plug, remove the oil filter, let it drip for awhile, then, put new oil filter on with a little bit of oil on the o ring of the filter, then put the plug back in, then add oil specified in the owners manual. Start it up and check for leaks.

Car should be warm not hot. I used Synthetic Mobil 1 0W40. Walmart, the Evil Empire, is the best price, sadly. Oil filter from Ricambi. Their drain plug did not even fit for $35 and you did not even get both. Buy $2 crush washers as the local auto store instead and reuse the plug. Loosen filler cap. lift car on a 4 post lift. Put the car as far right as you can in order to allow better access to the oil reservoir drain plug. Remove first drain plug. Olio Motore is clearly cast in 1 inch letter next to the plug. That drains 80% of the oil. Find the big drain plug and the bottom of the oil reservoir. You need a 2 foot long wedge shaped piece of something to allow the oil to run to your collection point and not spill all over. Replace oil filter which is easily accessible on the bottom of the engine towards the firewall. Remember to oil the new gasket a bit. Refill about 11 quarts via the reservoir. Run the engine to see how much extra you need to refill to get to the top mark. It would be a pretty dirty and miserable task without a 4 post lift. Don't jack the car up asymmetrically and risk twisting the birdcage. $80 for the oil. $75 for the filter.
