major maintenance schedule

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when is the timing belt or chain  recommended to be replaced

1 Answer

155,265

A timing chain will typically last the life of the vehicle, or close to it. A timing belt should be replaced every 6 years or 60,000 miles. Whichever comes first. Some will tell you 90,000 miles for the timing belt but I think that's too long. A timing belt replacement is much cheaper than a new engine! Hope that helps! Jim
