Aircon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My aircon kicks in by itself while I'm driving and the pulley is making a hell of a noise, so bad that a guy handed me a service ticket for maintenance this morning on my way to work. And the aircon isn't even switched on??? So when this noise starts the pulley doesn't run smoothly but seems to wobble and then it makes the noise, so I need to know where I can pull the plug on the aircon to prevent it from kicking in all the time, its driving me crazy!!! I'm a woman, so please help me?

I assume u meant the compressor not the whole ac system that blower and everything turns on, u can hear the compressor engage? , if that's the case, u probaably have a bad ac compressor, the clutch is damaged and dragging probably bent. Disconnect the plug at the compressor and see it it still does it, if it does. Replace compressor
Hello, thanks for the answer, that is what I'm trying to find,,,the plug, where does I find the plug to disconnect??? I don't want to disconnect the wrong plug
So you only get the noise when the AC is on, and not off or all the time? Could be a bad AC clutch, but could still be a bad pulley. The AC could also be coming on when you have the defroster on. If you want to prevent it from coming on period, pull the AC relay. http://www.autogenius.info/ford-bantam-fuse-box-diagram/
Plug is on compressor body between compressor and compressor pulley
U need to climb under front of truck to get to it
HI, Nothing is on in my ldv, not even the fan, the aircon seems to just kick in by itself and its NOT running all the time, I know where the alternator is but the space in my bakkies engine is very compact I did take a picture off a plug with 2 wires only and will add it, but this is in my bonnet right next to the body at the drivers side in what looks like a rack that running on top underneath the hood
Thanks for the diagram, the only relay I can see concerning the aircon is number 4 that says aircon switch? Will this disconnect the aircon altogether?? because as is looks like the switch is malfunctioning and I want to disconnect the aircon entirely
OK I treid to disconnect that switch but cant do it, it stuck in some way, now I'm concentrating on the fuse/relay....I use to have a Jetta with the fuse box in the bonnet, I know exactly what it looks like, but there is no fuse box in the Bantam's bonnet only 3 fuses situated next to the battery and the shock, will attach photo's... could it be this? and which one must I remove? Thanks for all the help so far, I appreciate!
I don't think disconnecting the relay will resolve the issue but at least it will verify that the compressor is bad, might as well find the connector plug cause ur gonna have to get familiar with the compressor if ur gonna have to replace it
Good Morning, the photo of the plug I posted is the correct one for the Aircon, I disconnected it, for now it will have to do...at least that scary noise stopped. Very important, if Anyone ever want to know where the power plug for the aircon on a Ford Bantam 1600 can be found, right at the back of the engine against the cab in the right corner in that little "rack". THANKS for every ones input and help. I really appreciate it. Jackie
