Pulled a plug to check oil. no longer have 5th gear or reverse

Did that happen before or after you pulled the plug? What amount of oil and what weight did you have to add?

I did sane thing didn't have 5th or reverse after taking the hex plug out

The wrong bolt was removed. Internally, that bolt holds a bracket that allows shifting to 5th and reverse. The tranny parts are now at the bottom of the tranny. You will need to get inside and retrieve the parts to reinstall.
