What will cause a 1965 ford falcon to turn over but not start. Put a new battery,
new points and condensor

Old fuel, carb in need a rebuild are a couple things. When was the time the car last started and was run? If over a year, flush the fuel lines and tank and use new fuel and rebuild the carb.

Do as stated above but do a dry and then a wet compression test. If the compression I’d too low it won’t start.

You need three things for the engine to run. Fuel, spark (ignition), and compression. So something is missing. Try pouring a little gasoline down the carburetor or spray a little starting fluid down the carburetor. You don't need much. It should run a few seconds on that. If it does you have a fuel problem. Carburetor needs rebuilding, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, water condensation in the gas tank, broken fuel line or clogged fuel line. If the vehicle has been sitting unused for some time you might have a few issues that need attention. If it won't run on the starting fluid or gasoline you either have an ignition problem or no compression. Check for spark by removing one of the spark plug wires from a spark plug. Put a large metal screwdriver, with a wooden or plastic handle in the spark plug wire end. Hold the metal screwdriver near something metal that's not painted. Have a helper crank the engine. You should see a strong spark jumping from the screwdriver as the engine is cranked. You will probably be able to hear it too. SNAP, SNAP, SNAP as the engine is cranked. If you don't have spark, check the gap on those new points. With the points open use a matchbook cover and adjust the points so the opening puts a slight drag on the matchbook cover as you pull it out of the open points. This setting will be good enough to get you running. You should make the final adjustment with a dwell meter. If you have spark and fuel but it still won't run it's time to do a compression test. If all cylinders test very low or zero the timing chain has jumped. If that's the case the timing chain and sprockets will need to be replaced and as part of the repair the valve timing will need to be reset. Hope that helps! Jim
