Ignition clicking and engine won't start

Asked by ollynhardy Feb 03, 2017 at 06:16 AM about the Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Question type: General

I have an Automatic A-Class Mercedes 2005 model. I am having trouble starting it, I turn the plastic key and the ignition clicks but won't start. the lights and all electrics work ok, the battery is ok, it has a new starter motor. If I wobble the gear shift a few times it starts. It seems as though there is a connection loose in the transmission. Has anyone any ideas as to what is going on? None of the local mechanics has any idea. This has been going on for the past few months and is very frustrating.
