Question type: Maintenance & Repair

98 gmc 1/2 ton, quit running after hitting a pot hole - died on the spot.  Figured it was the fuel pump - so replaced it - engine cranks, but will only run when gas is poured in the throttle body?  Any ideas?  I have checked the volts to the new fuel pump (8 volts to grey wire) only when cranking engine over, with  just the key on no power to the gray pump wire. I cannot hear the pump making any noise - wondering if the pump I put in might be a faulty ?? I have switched the starter and the fuel pump relay to see if it was faulty but no difference.  Any Ideas ??

with key on engine off the pump should run 3 seconds and quit. the jolt may have shook a vital plugin jack to unconnect if your not getting a cranking from starter your ground wire may be it

thanks that was my guess also, If I ground out the black wire on the pump to a new ground source (for testing purposes only) should the pump work if it is only a ground wire issue? Where would the original ground wire go to ground.
