what do you mean by broke? Is it physically broken or did it just stop working. You didn't put in a year so is there a check engine light on? If so it could be a VSS. Or if old enough a broken speedometer drive cable or gearing.

2003 Safari, just went black. check engine light always on. just replaced f pump, plugs, wires, dist cap, coil, rotor. van starts.....now

If it just went black then it is possible that just the illumination bulbs went out, get a penlight and shine it into the speedometer with the key on, if it is just the bulbs then you should be able to make out the 0 on the meter, best to do this in a dark area or at night without a dome light, you still need to find out why the check engine light is on, if you cant afford a scanner then someplace like autozone can pull the codes for you and its free.

I wish it it was a bulb. no odometer digital reading, speedometer needle on 0mph, and fuel tank reads 3/4 tank and does not move up or down.

Then your going to have to pull the cluster and check the wiring, grounds are an issue so pay close attention to those. A wiring diagram could prove helpful.
