my 55 plate 1.6 focus is lacking power and making a loud popping noise at low revs. any ideas what could be causing it?

i have replaced plugs and leads, checked each plug to ensure it is firing, its
reving ok, but has lack of power and misfires under load especially at low revs

Sounds like it is missing a couple of teeth on the timing gear. Do not know on that vehicle it timing is adjustable but if so adjust timing.
