I have an 08 Ford Focus. If I don't use the heat my temp gauge goes to normal . But once I turn on the heat or def the gauge goes down to cold. I have good heat still, and not low on Antifreeze, What could be the problem? My engine light is on as well

As long as temp runs normal with out using heater, and below normal with heater on and you have good heat, and no coolant lost, this would be normal, when you cut your heat or on it cycles the air conditioner all so,making ac radiator fan kick on along with radiator fan, meaning temp will drop on guage,as long as you do not see it go over normal there is no issue,IMOO.

May be sensor,if it is reading different than normal to you,but sounds like car is ok as far as cooling system.

Have car scanned for free at one of your local autoparts stores to know the engine light issue.

I had it scanned and it showed a possible of 3 things. Low coolant, thermostat stuc open and coolant temp sensor. But it didn't say which sensor. I dont want to play process of elimination.

And the gauge drops all the way down to under cold as if just starting car in cold weather
