My 2008 Focus has a Duratec 2.0 with a timing CHAIN. This has been the case since 2005 I beleive. Fred

it depends on your engine; in european focuses, engines 1.4 and 1.6 gasoline have timing belt; the 2.0 gasoline is on chain; the 1.6 and 2.0 diesels have timing belt, while the 1.8 diesel has both a belt and a chain

The US 2.0 Duratec has a chain not a valve bending snapping belt
