how do you change the generator in a 2004 dodge ram 1500

You do not have a generator, but an alternator. Loosen the bolts to release the tension from the belt. Remove the wires but mark them first so the replacement will be wired the same. Remove the bolts holding the alternator and lift it up. Make sure you get the correct replacement for your truck and all the bolt holes line up. Also make sure the wiring is the same. A good car parts store will help there. If they will not, go to someone that will. If you have a v-belt the pulley will be different from a serpentine belt.
