Yes, the 2008 Cobalt SS is Turbocharged. The engine is the same LNF engine that is in the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline. This engine is rated at 260hp/260tq at the crank. It also comes with a recirculating BOV, which means you won't hear it nearly as much as all the other turbo'd cars on the road. But that isn't everything, the car also has upgraded Brembo brakes, a much tighter suspension, and wider tires that enabled it to achieve the fastest Nurburgring lap ever in a FWD car, 8:22:05 and the car has been run to a 13.9 ET 1/4 mile as it comes from the factory . The turbo maxes at 22psi stock, but most will only see 14-16psi due to the computer measuring torque output and adjusting boost, cam timing, and fuel to achieve 260tq all the time, every time. So until HP Tuners finishes unlocking the ECU, boltons will not show any real gains. But if you can't wait for HP Tuners, and you don't think the car is fast enough, don't worry. Within the next 6 months, GMPP is releasing the stage kit that will bump engine power output to 290hp/310tq at the crank. Hope that answers a few of your questions

There is no SS Cobalt for the model year 2008. The turbo version will be a 2009 model year car, released later this year.

According to General Motors they are no longer going to make the cobalt ss because they say it wasn't a big success with the tuner crowd but they will still be making the cobalt ls and lt models which the lt engine is able to accept the factory supercharger off the ss model

There is a 2008 cobalt SS/TC. It has already been released. as stated above

I stand corrected - Everything I read said it wasn't supposed to be released until late in the year as a model year 2009, but you're right. It is available now on Chevy's website. Very interesting.

There are already 2008 SS/TCs out. Several folks at CobaltSS.net have em. And as for the statement from GM saying how the SS wasn't successful? BS at GM because there are Cobalts everywhere, a lot of em I see are SS's. Those are quick little cars, I'd say they were successful. As for the SS, they're also going to have an SS Sedan too, also turboed. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/09/2008-chevy-cobalt-ss-sedan-first-look-and-pricing/ Check that out there.
