Looking at purchasing 2008 vw passat

we are thinking about purchasing a 2008 vw passat.  It has a recall for the fuel pump module and the check engine light was on ( vacuum system leak).  My gut is telling me not to get it.  Please advise

Never buy a car with the warning lights on. Have the owner fix it until everything works. For one thing you cannot register it without a smog check in most states and you cannot pass the smog check with the check engine light on.
