Where is the thermostat exactly located on a 2008 Chevy Impala & does anything have to be removed to access it?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband needs to change my thermostat but is unable to locate it. The hose from the radiator to the engine runs from the left side to the bottom somewhere. I can't find a good diagram that shows exactly where it is for him to use as a reference and he cannot find anything on You Tube.

Does he have to remove anything to gain full access to it? This diagram is GREAT. It's much bigger and clearer then the one I found but what am I looking at it? What is the thermostat sitting next to (all around it)? Heater house, Housing Unit?

You're looking at the side of the engine... you need to remove the thermostat housing to gain access to the thermostat. here is the procedure as follows after draining the coolant... Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement or Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement . Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing (3.5L shown, 3.9L similar). Remove the thermostat housing bolt/stud. Remove the thermostat housing and gasket. Remove the thermostat. Clean the gasket surfaces.
