Heater blower not working

Asked by Connie Jan 31, 2022 at 11:22 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've had a leak in my radiator system I
thought had been fixed. But now the
heater fan will not work. The fuses are
good too there is not any noise from
the blower motor area under the dash.
Would the leak affect my heater/ fan
from working? I had filled the radiator
with antifreeze a few days prior to
when the heater/ fan quit. It's like 5°
outside now! HELP!!!  The car has
almost 300,000 miles.

Blower motor is independent of heat. There usually aren't wiring problems with these, so if fuses are good but thee motor isn't getting current, the problem is likely a defective resistor. It's mounted to the firewall, under the dashboard. There are videos online that show this.

I think if it's the resistor pack it can be " hot wired " for a single speed , then you can get it blowing heat without a trip to the auto zoo . If it's the motor shop around for the motor only they may sell it along with a plenum piece , that's what happened when it bought one for a 2002 buick , I ended up with an $60** piece of plastic that I didn't use . Either way you'll need a multitester to see what has power/ground and what don't .
