In all likelihood the throttle return linkage is hanging up somewhere along the clutch cable linkage route. Get underneath the and have someone depress the clutch and accelerator pedals at various times. Check for any binding along the center hump from inside the car. Also lube the return linkage at the carbs and check for binding at the top of the engine. DO THIS WITH THE ENGINE SWITCHED OFF!
