I have an 05 malibu the heater has worked only on high since i got it but just recently went out completely, i can smack the bottom of the dash tho and the blower will start back up. Do i need a whole new blower motor or just the resistor?

The resistor controls the speed but if the motor is bad, it won't help replacing the resistor alone. When u replace the resistor, check motor electrical connection sometimes they get smoked or corroded. If they look ok, replace motor and resistor

Before you buy a new motor, check to make sure you're getting voltage to the motor cause there's also a fuse and a relay before the motor
