Burning smell
Burning smell and smoke coming
from under the hood while the car
was parked,raise the hood and
noticed one of the battery terminals
was melted off
Sounds like you have a dead short in the battery harness somewhere, could even be at the terminal ends if there is any fraying wire protruding from it. Before dropping a new battery in there check the battery cables, look for any stripped insulation or burn marks, fraying, and try to check it with a meter for continuity or shorts. Also check your fusible links to see if they popped. The big cable going to the starter is a good place to start looking.
