Revs but won’t turn on

Asked by Rachel May 15, 2019 at 01:41 AM about the 1984 Pontiac Bonneville

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1984 Bonneville kept stalling
I had to keep getting it jumped. I got a new
battery same problem but then it would crank
but not start, lights, radio etc. work. I replace
the Distributor cap rotor and spark plugs and
wires. Still won’t turn on?
Any suggestions?

There are a lot of things that can go wrong on a thirty-five year old car. You replaced the battery. Are all the connections clean & tight. Might be a defective starter motor/solenoid, regulator, relay, neutral safety switch, or even the ignition switch..... Beyond that, your car might have an ignition or fuel pump problem. You're either not getting proper fuel or spark. Really could be either. Without seeing the car, it's not possible to say what the exact problem is. Why don't you take it to a mechanic to diagnose. You'll then have his opinion and estimate and can have him fix it, or use his review as a guide to doing repairs yourself?
