How much would a second hand Nissan Pulsar Q (1988 model) have been worth in 2002?

Basically I totalled my parents car 10 years ago and didn't make any kind of apology for
it. I want to pay them in cash what they could have earned off the car as if they sold it
second hand in 2002/3.

10K for a second hand Nissan Pulsar Q which was 12 years old!? Really? I don't know if I can afford that... Realistically, if I was trying to sell the 1988 model in 2002 what would I have got for it? Thanks.
