It's an automatic 5 speed and the tapping noise stops momentarily during the second or so it takes to shift into another gear. I'm not positive it's a transmission problem but most all else has been checked or changed by the dealer, but because of the symptoms I wonder about the transmission. I've told the dealer this but they don't seem interested??

so your not getting any other sypmtoms other than the tapping cause it could be a torque converter problem cause as you apply power then you would get the tapping noise untill you get into the next gear..does that make sence

Thanks for your reply Jeff. It might make sense to me if I knew what the torque convertor was doing between shifts. Is it always operational or only in action during the shifts? I believe it is in basic terms, a clutch to separate drive train and/or engine from each other or the transmission during a gear change? The problem is I don't have enough knowledge to know what's happening.
